Congratulations to Minouk Lim, who has been selected for the 2023 Obayashi Foundation Research Program. The prestigious grant is awarded biennially to support the activities of an artist in undertaking creative research into issues related to the theme of “the city.” Launched in 2017 and now in its fourth iteration, the program’s previous recipients include Theaster Gates, Makoto Aida, and exonemo.

 

Based on the recommendations of a selection committee of museum curators in Japan, the program awards grants to artists with an abundance of creative ideas and a strong interest in the life of cities. Selected artists carry out research on issues revolving around urban life, offering perspectives that differ from conventional approaches to urban planning and presenting proposals for an innovative or ideal type of urban environment.
